Richard D. Newell

Richard D. Newell, age 68, of  Sherrodsville, Ohio, died suddenly Thursday evening, July  23, 2015 while doing what he loved ... playing golf. 

He retired in 2002 as a Purchasing Manager from the Timken Company in Canton, Ohio after 34 years of service. He was currently employed at Atwood Lake Park since his retirement.

He was born August 23, 1946 in Dennison, Ohio and was the son of the late David C. and Mary L. "Bea" Hugh Newell. 

Rich was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Carrollton and was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam in 1969. He earned a Master's Degree from Kent State University. Rich insisted on being active. Golf was his favorite pastime, but he also enjoyed playing cards, and loved being the family handyman.  His family, though, was his priority. 

He is survived by his wife Connie Stearns Newell, whom he married June 29, 1968,  a daughter and son Stephanie Newell and Garrick (Amanda) Newell, a grandson Ian Newell, all of Charleston, South Carolina, a sister Mary R. "Sadie" Newell of Sherrodsville, and nephew Derek (Hillary) Newell of Massillon, OH, and an extended family.

In keeping with his wishes, no formal funeral services are planned. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville has been entrusted with his cremation. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Carroll County, 1040 Trump Road N.W.
