Roy W. Dessecker

Roy W. Dessecker, age 76, of 2002 Henderson School Road N.E., New Philadelphia, Ohio, died early Tuesday morning, July 5, 2016 in Union Hospital at Dover. 

He was born June 19, 1940 in Goshen Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio and was the son of the late Charles M. and Sadie P. Aubihl Dessecker.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Sullivan, two brothers Milford Dessecker and Merle Dessecker, and a daughter-in-law Pam Dessecker.

He retired after 40 years as a self-employed painter and wallpaper hanger who also worked for Fred Hephinger in New Philadelphia and Dale "Wally" Waldenmyer at Dover. He was a longtime member of the Holmes United Methodist Church and was a Viet Nam Era veteran of the U.S. Army. Roy loved the outdoors and spent may hours with his sons Thad and Todd,  teaching them the finer points of fishing and hunting - especially deer hunting. He also ventured into a little woodworking.  He delighted in helping his sons with some of the duties involved in their muzzle-loader hobby. He was a good father who cherished the companionship of his sons. 

He is survived by his wife Linda S. Korns Dessecker, whom he married January 25, 1964, his two sons Thad Dessecker and Todd (Stacey) Dessecker, both of New Philadelphia, his two grandchildren Cheyenne Dessecker of Midvale, O., and Brody Dessecker of New Philadelphia, a great-granddaughter Chanel DeVore of Midvale, and his only surviving brother Willard (Louise) Dessecker of New Philadelphia.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2016 in the Holmes United Methodist Church with  Pastor Roger Warnes officiating.  Interment will follow in the Holmes Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville.  Memorial contributions in Roy's memory may be made to the Holmes United Methodist Church,  6438 Holmes Church Road N.E. , P.O.
