Wendell Albert Nash

Wendell Albert Nash, age 89, a Leesville area resident since 1973, passed away  peacefully Sunday afternoon, January 10, 2016 in Aultman Hospital at Canton, surrounded by the family he loved, and who loved him.

He was born April 17, 1926 in Clare County, Michigan and was the son of the late Samuel and Frances Irene Hinkley Nash. 

He was a 1943 graduate of Harrison High School in Harrison, Michigan, and was an employee in the oil fields in that area until his entry into the armed forces during World War II.  He served in the European Theatre with the 2nd Armored "Hell on Wheels" Division of the U.S. Army from January 1945 until August of the same year, and then with the Constabulary in Germany  until September, 1946.
On April 10, 1948, he married the former Virginia Watson.  They raised their family of three sons and one daughter in Alma, Michigan.  There, Wendell entered the trucking industry. He worked as a driver for 15 years, and went on to be an owner/operator, a broker, safety director, area operations manager, and sales manager.  He totaled 40 years in the trucking industry, retiring from the Leaseway Corporation in Ohio in 1987.  Wendell had belonged to various traffic and petroleum organizations in Ohio and Pennsylvania.  He was a life member of the F. & A. M. Lodge #397 of Gladwin, Michigan and had attended the Christian Church as a member, deacon, and elder. Having left Michigan in 1968 for Western Pennsylvania, the Nash family moved to Carroll County, Ohio in 1973.  He was a former member of the Green Valley Ruritans, and with his wife Virginia, enjoyed their membership in the Scot Sailing fleet at Atwood Lake. He was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed bowling in his earlier years.  He spent many hours in his workshop woodworking - creating cradles, bookcases, plaques and frames for paintings.  He and Virginia traveled extensively, having visited all 50 states and many other countries. As his wife often said "If his machine was operable and the road passable, he would go anywhere."  

In addition to his wife Virginia, he is survived by three sons and a daughter, Richard (Debra) Nash of Greenville, South Carolina, Randall (Elaine) Nash and Dennis (Elizabeth) Nash, both of Jackson Township, Stark County Ohio, and Laurine Lloyd of Leesville,  his ten grandchildren Melinda Nash Sandoval and Melanie Nash Bush, both of Ithaca, Michigan, Adrian (Stephanie) Nash, Cristina (Charlie) Delacey, Sarah Lloyd (Mike) Wilson, Allison Nash (Dustin) Vrabel, Aaron Lloyd, Courtney Nash (Jason) Novak, Emily Nash (Marin) Ndoja, and Morgan (Qingxia) Lloyd, all of the Northeast Ohio Region, twelve great-grandchildren, and  a brother Elvin Nash of North Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, LeAnn Nash, two infant brothers, one infant sister, two additional sisters Patricia Nash Seipke and Rosalie Nash Ellis, a son-in-law Thomas Lloyd, and two daughters-in-law, Rosa Nash and Glenda Nash.

Public calling hours will be observed on Wednesday, January 13, 2016,  from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville where Rev. Milo Baker will officiate a private funeral service following the visitation.  A Masonic Burial Service will be held in Gladwin, Michigan at a later date.
