Virginia L. "Gin" Birch

Virginia  L. "Gin" Birch, age 67, of  Dellroy, Ohio, died  Saturday evening, January 18, 2025 in the Minerva Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at Minerva, Ohio.

She was born January 29, 1957 in Dexter City, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Clayton and Wanda (Clark) Slater.  Her husband, the late Randal T. Birch, whom she married June 26, 1982, passed away on September 23, 2024. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Slater.

Primarily a homemaker, Gin was renown in her family for creating an extraordinary pumpkin pie, such that the magic could not be copied by anyone else.  She also baked notably delicious cinnamon rolls.  She loved to square dance and was accompanied by her grandchildren nearly every day in the summer attending yard sales, from which she never walked away empty handed.  Over the years, she baby-sat many children.  Many who knew her referred to her as "Meemaw".  A loving mother and attentive grandmother, she will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Tabitha "Tabby" (Brent) Birch of Minerva, Mrs. DeEtte (Jeff) Vrsan of Dellroy, her grandchildren  Emma and Jimmy Vrsan, a step-grandson Brayden Barrick,  two brothers Richard Slater of Caldwell, OH and Virgil Slater of Dexter City, a sister Mrs. Mary (Kenny) Brothers of Beverly, OH, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 23, 2025 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with her nephew, Mr. Tom Brothers officiating.  Interment will follow in the Union Valley Cemetery near Dellroy. Calling hours will be held Thursday one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
