Vera Miller Obituary

Vera M. Miller, age 77, of  Mineral City, Ohio  (New Cumberland area)  died early Monday morning, July 4, 2022 in her residence following a long illness.

She was born March 18, 1945 in Dover, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Willard Ray and Martha Belle (Bates) Wigfield.  Her husband, Taylor F. "Jake" Miller, Sr., whom she married March 23, 1961, died on February 6, 2010. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Taylor F. "Jakie" Miller, Jr. who died September 20, 1995 and a  granddaughter, Brittany Hartline who died May 19, 2016.

Vera was a longtime resident of the New Cumberland area. She was primarily a homemaker, but at onetime was an employee of the former Custom Coaters at Dover, OH, manager of the former A & W Hot Dogs and More at the New Towne Mall, was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Jake Miller Excavating, and along with her husband, owned and managed the former New Cumberland General Store.  She attended the New Cumberland United Methodist Church. She was fond of playing board games, and loved to play card games, most particularly Canasta. Each year, she provided for her family and neighbors as she canned and preserved the harvest from her family garden. She also showed her love to neighbors and friends for many years by creating and delivering homemade Christmas gift boxes. She possessed a very large collection of cookie jars and salt and pepper shaker sets which she proudly displayed in her home.  But regardless of the activities that filled her life, nothing was more important to her than the love that she held in her heart for her family ... her children, her grandchildren and her siblings were the center of her universe.

She is survived by two sons, Steven R. Miller and his partner Jay Melzer  and Todd J. Miller, both of Mineral City, two daughters-in-law, Carol L. Miller of Mineral City and Deborah G. Herron of Dover, OH, her grandchildren  Mrs. Ashleigh M. (Brian) Baker and Jordan Roy Miller, both of Mineral City, Jake "J. J." (Ashley) Miller of New Philadelphia, OH, two great-grandsons Lincoln Drake Hartline of Mineral City and Gatlin Taylor Miller of New Philadelphia, her sister, Louella M. "Lou" Dunn of Somerdale, OH, her three brothers, Bill Wigfield of Uhrichsville, OH, Joe (Steph) Wigfield of Magnolia, OH, and  Jerry (Sally) Wigfield of Sherrodsville, OH, a grandson-in-law, Jeremiah Hartline of Mineral City, and a large family of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00P.M., Saturday, July 9, 2022 in the New Cumberland United Methodist Church with  nephews Pastor John Dunn and Pastor Mark Dunn officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
