Ruth Virginia "Katy" Walker

Ruth  Virginia "Katy" Walker, age 93, died early Wednesday morning, October 27, 2010 at her home on Cutler Road, Sherrodsville, O. following a one-year illness.

Ruth was born April 19, 1917 at Crooked Run, New Philadelphia, O. and was the daughter of the late Fred and Flossie Pfiester Espenschied.  In addition her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenwood B. Walker whom she married July 27, 1935 and he died February 25, 1968, four sisters June Gardner, Edyth Barnish, Thelma Harig, and Dorothy Fisher, and two brothers Donald F. and Glenn H. Espenschied.

She retired in 1977 from the Atwood Lake Lodge where she worked in the housekeeping department for nine years. Ruth was a member of the Roxford United Methodist Church at Dennison since 1967 and a member of the Roxford Senior Saints. She volunteered at the Sherrodsville Senior Center.  She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing Euchre and Jass. Ruth had a "green thumb" and enjoyed planting and caring for her flowers. She was also a member of the Bunco Club which met monthly at the Crossroads Restaurant at Magnolia.

She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Earl (Bernice) Heavlin of Sherrodsville and two sons Lawrence G. (Betty) Walker of Bowerston, O. and David Walker of Sherrodsville, a daughter-in-law Betty J. Walker of New Philadelphia, a sister Faye Espenschied of Yorkville, O., 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, October 30, 2010 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Ron Heasley and Rev. Henry Mooney officiating. Interment will follow in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 until 8 PM in the funeral home.
