Ruth Burris Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Burris, born to the union of the late Charles Marion and Florence (Merriman) Slates, was born July 21, 1921 in Dellroy, Ohio where she grew up and graduated from high school.
At an early age, Ruth made an important decision in her life and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.  This decision played an important role in throughout her life and with every decision she made.
Ruth met a young man by the name of Donald Alvin Burris and they were united in marriage on June 1, 1946 in Dellroy, Ohio right before Donald had to go serve in World War II.  They shared over 51 years of marriage together and were blessed with one daughter, Janie.  Donald preceded her in death in 1997.
Ruth spent her whole life in Dellroy until she moved to Waynesvile, Missouri to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
While still in Dellroy, Ruth’s life revolved around her home and church.  She was the only remaining charter member of the Dellroy Nazarene Church.  She served in the church faithfully as the church pianist for 80 years and also taught Sunday School for over 50 years.  She was eager to help wherever she was needed.
In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed reading and playing the piano.  Anyone who visited her would have her play the piano for them.  Even as her health and her memory began to decline, she could still remember those old hymns and she would find her way to the piano and play them.
Ruth went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in her daughter’s home having attained the age of 99 years.  She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her.
Ruth leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter: Janie Leggett and her husband Ronald of Waynesville, MO; three grandchildren: Mark Leggett and his wife Brittany of Springfield, MO, Ronald Leggett, Jr. of Jewett, TX, and Melissa Dudley and her husband Tim of Marshfield, MO; seven great grandchildren: Chris Leggett of Springfield, MO, Madison Christian and her husband Travis of McKinney, TX, Braydon Leggett of Nixa, MO, Nick Leggett of Jewett, TX, Wyatt Dudley of Marshfield, MO, Ethan Leggett of Jewett, TX, and Lauren Dudley of Marshfield, MO; several other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one grandson, David Leggett.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in the Dellroy Nazarene Church of Dellroy, OH.  Burial will follow in the Leavittsville Cemetery of Leavittsville, OH.  Services are under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
