Rick N. Leggett Obituary

After a brief courageous battle with cancer, Rick Nelson Leggett, age 65, of Sherrodsville, passed away in his home on Thursday, March 14, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family.

Born at Twin City Hospital in Dennison on November 19, 1958, Rick was the son of the late Jack E., Sr. and Audrey (Coffy) Leggett. He was a 1977 graduate of Conotton Valley High School.  For 30 years, Rick worked as a Sheet Metal Journeyman and was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 33 out of Akron, Ohio.  He worked for Gallick’s Sheet Metal and retired from Metal Masters in Dover.

Rick will be missed by his wife of 31 years, Nevada E. Leggett, whom he married on September 19, 1992, his children, Tanya (Travis) Tristano, T. Renee’ (Keith) Veselenak-Hancock, Tiffany (Brent Hanna) Veselenak, and Mica Leggett; his grandchildren, Brady Stewart, Gage Crites, Ella Stewart, Xander Tristano, Landon Hanna, Gracie Leggett, Gabrielle Crites, Kwynn Tristano, Alexa Hanna; and a very special great-grandson, Braxton Stewart. Additionally, Rick will be missed by his sister, Barbara (Dick) Easterday and his three brothers, Jack (Rachel) Leggett, Ronald (Janie) Leggett, and Waldon Leggett,  many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, as well as many cherished friends.

Rick enjoyed gardening and landscaping with his wife, Nevada.  Together they created a beautiful space where they loved entertaining friends and family.  Rick was a master of all trades.  He could literally fix anything.  If you needed something done, he did it with humility and without expecting anything in return. When he wasn’t working hard on his property or helping someone else, Rick enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He was happiest in the Summer when he could do cannonballs or back flips off the diving board with them, take them for wagon rides on his John Deere, hike with them on the property, or attend their various sporting events or dance recitals.

In his younger days, Rick raced for Leggett’s Tire Shop and Gallick’s Sheet Metal in Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.  Number 77 was the recipient of many checkered flags at Midvale Speedway from 1978-1983.  Rick adored his time spent in the woods deer hunting and passed this love to his nephews and grandchildren.  He enjoyed fishing, mostly at his own pond with his great grandson, Braxton.  The pair were successful at “reeling in” many bluegill, catfish,  and crappie.   He was a member of the Atwood Yacht Club, Whitetails Unlimited and the VFW 1445 in New Philadelphia.
