Pastor Steven R. Bowling, age 56, of 6040 Dana Road S.W., Sherrodsville, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning August 7, 2010.
He was the founder and Pastor of the Family Worship Center of Carrollton, O. and was manager of the American Professional Truck Driving School at Gnadenhutten having been dedicated to both places for the last 16 years.
He was born January 14, 1954 in Ashland, Kentucky and was the son of Delores Keaton Burns of Dover and the late Ralph L. Bowling who died Nov. 5, 1983. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother Ronald L. Bowling and his mother-in-law Uldine Hahn who was his longtime friend and confidant.
After faithfully serving his country as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Steve achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education from The International Seminary. Additionally, he had taken graduate studies in Education Administration from the Oral Roberts University and LaSalle University. He was attaining his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Trinity College and Seminary at the time of his death. He served as the area director of the Eastern District of The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel and had been licensed with the Foursquare since 1998. He was ordained and a member of the World Harvest Ministerial Fellowship since 2001. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing golf whenever possible and had once played semi-professional football with the former Tuscarawas County Vikings. Steve had 20 years of experience coaching athletic programs, particularly football, at the high school and college levels. He touched numerous lives through his activities at various Christian schools, colleges, and his ministry. He will be sadly missed as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Diana Hahn Bowling, whom he married Sept. 28, 1975, two daughters Mrs. Yousef (Heather) Zananiri of Pickerington, O. and Mrs. Doug (Stephanie) Morrill of Holland, O., a son Jeremy Bowling of Columbus, O., three sisters and four brothers, Geraldine Barrick of Crestview, Fla., Danny Lee (Susan) Bowling of East Canton, O., Mrs. Jim (Linda) Chaffin of Bowling Green, Kentucky, David (Connie) Bowling of Crestview, Fla., Gary Bowling of Dover, O., Keith Bowling of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Mrs. Robert (Greta) Fabian of Wintersville, O., five grandchildren, Noah, Abby, and Ethan Zananiri all of Pickerington, and Skyler and Joshua Morrill both of Holland. He also leaves behind a large family of nieces and nephews, including two special nephews Tommy and Marshall Jordan, and his longtime mentor and father-figure Lewis T. "Red" Higgenbotham of Sherrodsville.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 13, 2010 in the Family Worship Center at 225 North Lisbon St., Carrollton with Rev. Bill Canfield and Rev. Tom Bender officiating. Interment will follow in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens where the Carroll County combined units of the VFW, DAV, and American Legion will conduct military graveside services. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5 until 8 PM in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville.
