She was a 1971 Graduate of Malvern High School. She graduated from the Canton City Practical Nurse Program and practiced nursing for over 40 years. She worked as an LPN for Aultman Hospital and for Dr. Iqbal Choudry MD-Pediatrician in Canton. Later she also worked for and managed the medical offices of Dr. Stanley Bertman MD in Canton. In 2000 she moved to Bradenton Florida and married her high school sweetheart Dan Schermerhorn. She continued her nursing career in Florida at Manatee Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Bradenton. She retired from JSA Healthcare in 2018 as a Case Manager. After retirement she moved back to Ohio in 2018 to be near her children and grandchildren. Once back in Ohio Michelle volunteered briefly at Community Hospice thrift store in Carrollton, Ohio.

Michelle was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend. She was known for her beautiful smile, sweet nature, and kind heart. To those who knew her well she was Debi and she answered to Mimi when her grandchildren came along. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, quilting, sailing with her husband, singing, and dancing, professional baseball (Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays) sunsets, 80’s music and movies. She made the best ever spaghetti, tuna noodle casserole and macaroni salad. Her children will forever cherish singing along to the American Top 40 and Casey Casem on Saturday mornings. Michelle loved to help people. For several years, she was a Notary Public. She spent her spare time marrying people all over the beautiful gulf beaches of Florida with her husband Dan in tow to take the photos.
