Lynn G. Gump, age 75, of Dover, Ohio, died suddenly Monday, October 30, 2023 in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover after becoming ill in her home.
She was born July 3, 1948 in Dover, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Elmer C. and Grace P. (Salterelli) Tope. Her husband, Robert V. Gump, Sr., whom she married February 27, 1970, passed away on February 29, 2012. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven A. Gump, two sisters Rosemary Tope and Lydia Hankinson, a brother Ellsworth Tope, and two half-sisters, Esther Denmark and Roxie Schnase.
Lynn retired in 2007 after 25 years of service as a custodian for the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District. She was a 1966 graduate of Conotton Valley High School, and attended the St. Paul's Community Church in Mineral City. She was well-known for her participation in many Tuscarawas County Slow-pitch softball leagues in which she skillfully played for many years. Her primary focus and greatest satisfaction came from the time that she spent engaged with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister who will be missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by a son, Robert V. "Rob" (Angie) Gump, Jr. of Dover, her five grandchildren Alicia (John Workman and his two children Presley and Cooper) Gump of New Philadelphia, OH, Emily (Logan Hebert) Gump of North Canton, OH, Austin Gump of Dover, Fantasia Owens of Dundee, OH, and Chandler McGrath of Dover, three sisters, Janet M. Stotzer of Dover, Nancy Stinehour of Galion, OH, and Sheila Rae of Dover, five brothers, Clinton Tope of Leavittsville, OH, Elmer (Alice) Tope of Bolivar, OH, Dan (Ann) Tope of Sherrodsville, OH, Bill (Nancy) Tope of Brunswick, OH, and Neil (Margaret) Tope of New Philadelphia, and a large family of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, November 2, 2023 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. John Dunn officiating. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until time of services at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Interment of her ashes will take place at a later date in the Leavittsville Cemetery.
