Kathryn M. "Kate" Simler, age 90, a former Antigua Road SW, Sherrodsville (Leavittsville) resident, died Thursday evening, November 18, 2010 in the Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia.
She was born May 11, 1920 in Pike Township, Stark County, O., and was the daughter of the late Ira and Harriet May Lash Zeigler.
Her husband, Robert J. Simler, whom she married July 7, 1942, died September 10, 2004. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Faye, two brothers Charles and Allen Ziegler, and one grandson.
She was retired from Conotton Valley Schools where she was employed as a cafeteria worker for 17 years. Kate was a member of the Leavittsville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. She was1938 graduate of the former Bolivar High School.
She is survived by a son Ronald Simler and his companion Jo Sickels of New Philadelphia, her three daughters, Mrs. John (Kaye) Morrow of Snellville, Georgia, Jean Simler and her companion Jim Hollyfield of Sherrodsville, and Mrs. Vernon (Kathy) Cummings of Carrollton, O., a sister, Mrs. Zoe Purell of Carrollton, O., two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be conducted on Monday, November 22, 2010 in the Union Lawn Cemetery at Navarre, O. with Rev. Carol McCartney officiating. There are no calling hours scheduled. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
