Joan Doris Garn

Joan Doris Garn of Cornelius, NC, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on October 29, 1933, in Rayland, Ohio, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late John and Mildred Posgai. Her life was marked by a deep commitment to her faith, community, and family.

Joan was a dedicated member of Community in Christ Lutheran Church, where her presence was felt in various capacities. She actively participated in numerous Bible study groups and was a valued member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Her service extended to the church kitchen, where she generously shared her time, and to volunteering with Angels and Sparrows Community Table, embodying the spirit of compassion and service.

Beyond her commitments to her church and community, Joan had a profound love for birds, particularly hummingbirds. Her daily care for them reflected her nurturing and gentle spirit, bringing joy and beauty into her life and those around her.

A Memorial Service honoring Joan's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18th, at Community in Christ Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Beery officiating. Following this, a family graveside service and burial will take place on May 22nd at Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens in Sherrodsville, Ohio.

Joan is survived by her loving daughter Lori (George) Van Horn, her son Chris (Pam) Garn, and her cherished grandchildren Abby (Steve) Ellis, Jacob (Amy) Garn, Sam Garn, and her newborn great-grandson Bennett George Ellis. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul W. Garn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community in Christ Banner Fund, 7621 Norman Island Dr., Cornelius, NC 28031.
