Hans C. Ericksen, age 58, of 1273 Magnolia Road N.W., Magnolia, Ohio, died Wednesday morning, December 22, 2010 in Aultman Hospital at Canton, Ohio after suffering an apparent heart attack in his home.
He was born March 31, 1952 in Canton, and was the son of Charles E. and Jean F. Krug Ericksen of Sherrodsville, O.
He is a retired Teamster, and a former driver for Preston 151 Trucking, for whom he worked for 23 years. He was also formerly a driver for Consolidated Freightways, and finally Roadway Express, from which he retired. Hans was a very enthusiastic participant and fan of both drag racing and circle track racing. He was a proud Teamster, who had affiliations with both Teamsters Local #92 in Canton, and Local #24 in Akron, O. He was also a passionate fan of NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hans also restored classic cars, and was the proud owner of a 1962 Chevrolet Bellaire and a 1938 Plymouth Coupe. He liked to relax by hanging out with his buddies and his grandson the "Meister". He was also a member of the Magnolia Eagles Club.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Paula Spilker Ericksen, whom he married July 7, 1977, and two sons and a daughter, Daniel E. Ericksen and his companion Heather Howard of Santa Maria, California, Andrew Christian Ericksen of Magnolia, and Tiffany Nicole Ericksen of Canton, a grandson, Gage Riley Ericksen of Canton, two step-grandchildren, Spencer and Haley Howard both of Santa Maria, California, two brothers, Charles G. "Smoke" (Kathy) Ericksen of Bamberg, South Carolina and Lou (Susan) Ericksen of Sherrodsville, and a sister, Mrs. Jim (Karen) Greenleaf also of Sherrodsville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Danny Ericksen and two nieces Rhonda M. Ericksen and Jennifer Marie Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Carol McCartney officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Cemetery near Sherrodsville. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
