Gloria A. "Betty" Dutton

Gloria A. "Betty" Dutton, age 85, a longtime resident of the Atwood Lake area, died early Sunday morning, December 5, 2010 in her residence following a two-year illness.

She was born October 1, 1925 in Orange Township, Carroll County and was the daughter of the late Emery Clyde and Harriet Edna  "Hattie" Ryan Dutton.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters including an infant sister Vivian M. Dutton, Evangeline "Sis" Fox and Katherine I.  "Kate" Shaffer, and two brothers Dwight E. "Tom" and Maurice "Pete" Dutton.

She was a 1943 graduate of the former Sherrodsville High School, one of a class of 12 graduates.  While working and attending night school, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Malone College at Canton. She retired in 1983 from the Timken Roller Bearing Company at New Philadelphia  after 40 years of service.  During her retirement, Betty had been an active member of the Midvale United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed playing her violin with family, friends and jam groups.  She always shared her love of music with all who knew her.

She is survived by a brother John (Laura) Dutton of Mineral City, Ohio, her longtime friend Ruth Addy of Bowerston, O.,  and a number of nieces and nephews, who could always rely upon her to be present for any important event.

In accordance with her wishes, no calling hours will be observed and she will be cremated. Her ashes will be  interred  in the New Cumberland Cemetery.  A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Midvale United Methodist Church with Rev. James Huston officiating.  Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall and all are invited to share this time with her family. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville is handling arrangements. Betty had requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions  be made to the Midvale United Methodist Church, P.O.
