Fred Duane "Gus" Guthrie, age 85, of Leesville, Ohio, died Saturday evening, January 9, 2021 in his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born March 13, 1935 in Rush Township, Uhrichsville, Ohio and was the son of the late William C. and Anna Gertrude Curby Guthrie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons William E. Guthrie and Michael A. Guthrie, a brother William D. Guthrie, six sisters Sarah "Sally" Fausto, Eileen Archinal, Theda Arter, Madaline Guthrie, Stella Sliffe, and Patsy Guthrie, and a great-granddaughter, Kira Guthrie.
He was retired from the Street Department in the Village of Leesville, had worked for many years at the former Wolf-Lanning Sewer Pipe Plant in Dennison, was a former employee of the Joy Manufacturing Company in New Philadelphia, was active in a partnership with Floyd Harris and Raymond Davidson at the former West Side Garage in Uhrichsville, and drove a motor delivery route for the Times-Reporter for ten years. He was a fan of old country music and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He looked forward to his daily morning breakfast at the Western Grill in Bowerston with his friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Linda D. ( Murphy) Guthrie, whom he married November 1, 1993, three daughters, Myleigh Guthrie of Leesville, Mrs.Teresa (Jim) Phillips of Uhrichsville, Tammy Wright of New Philadelphia, OH, his 12 grandchildren Andrew (Companion Gabby) Phillips and David (Charity) Scott, II, both of Uhrichsville, Nicci Brown of Gnadenhutten, OH, Mrs. E. Erin (Eddie) Sowards of Port Lavaca, TX, Mrs. Lyndi (Shawn) Stutzman of Bridgeport, OH, Cassie Guthrie of Bridgeport, OH, William D. (Companion Heather) Guthrie, II of Mansfield, OH, Mrs. Emily (Chris) Cavanaugh of Dennison, OH, and Trent Guthrie, Ty Guthrie, Tristan Guthrie, and Jon Chaney, all of Uhrichsville, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, two daughter-in-law Pam Guthrie of Dennison, and Glenda Guthrie of Uhrichsville, and a sister-in-law Mrs. Kelley (Georgie) Murphy of Alberta, Canada.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Michael O'Guin officiating. Calling hours will be held Wednesday two hours prior to services from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Facial coverings will be required for entry and all social distancing protocols will be observed.
