David P. "Sonny" Heid, age 83, of Dover, Ohio, died Thursday evening, September 9, 2021 in the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was born January 26, 1938 in Dover, Ohio and was the son of the late Ernest David and Margaret M. McMillen Heid.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in New Philadelphia and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He met his wife, the former Sarah Cox while stationed in Alaska while serving in the Air Force. David and Sarah were married on April 7, 1960. Sarah passed away on November 29, 2008. He was a retired delivery driver for a local fruit wholesaler in Dover, and had worked for the City of Dover as a night watchman at Deis Hill City Park. Following retirement, Sonny had also worked part-time for the former Rinks Discount Store and delivered pharmaceuticals for Marlowes. He was a 1957 graduate of Dover High School where he played varsity football. He was a lifetime fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, June Shirley Gardner.
He is survived by a son, Calvin J. (Mindy) Heid Sr. of Columbus, GA, a daughter Mrs. Darlene J. (Dale L.) Rummell, with whom he resided in Dover, his grandchildren David (Erika) Stoller of Canton, OH, Earnie Stoller of Dover, OH, Calvin James "C. J." (Deja Armour) Heid Jr. of Columbia, Missouri, Mrs. Jennifer M. (Randy) Robinson of Barberton, OH, two great-grandchildren, Blake P. Stoller of Dover, OH, and Grayson Robinson of Barberton, OH, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 17, 2021 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home with Elder Glenn Vogell officiating. Interment will follow in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Friday one hour prior to services from noon until 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
