Clair V. Ross, Sr

Clair V. Ross, Sr., age 92, of 8262 Cutler Road S.W., Sherrodsville, O., died Wednesday afternoon, August 18, 2010 in the New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover following a four month illness.

He worked as a master mechanic through the operating engineers Local 18 at Cleveland and had worked in road construction for the Baltes Brothers at Norwalk, O. He retired from the former Chapin and Chapin Co. at Norwalk.

He was born May 26, 1918 in Huron Co., near Norwalk and was the son of the late Victor and Bertha S. Hall Ross. In addition to his parents, one brother, and two sisters, he was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Jane Ruhl Ross who died April 29, 1997.

He was a World War II Air Force veteran. Clair was an active and faithful member of the Leesville Faith Community Chapel where he was very involved with the Mission Committee of the church and the work they performed. He loved to sing and he loved the hymns of the faith. He was a friend to all God's creations, especially the flowers. Clair had a passion for making homemade ice cream and had built and operated his own ice cream making machine. He will also be remembered as being very adept at pitching horseshoes, one of his favorite pastimes.

He is survived by his second wife, Betty Ann Eichel Romig Ross whom he married March 19, 1999, and his children, step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

The first of two funeral services will be held 7:30 PM Friday, August 20, 2010 (this evening) in the Faith Community Chapel at Leesville with Rev. Doug McFadden officiating. Calling hours will be held prior to services in the Chapel Friday, from 6 until 7:30 PM. Rev. Doug McFadden will also officiate a second funeral service which will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, August 21 in the North Fairfield United Methodist Church at North Fairfield, O. where calling hours will be held from noon until time of service. Interment will follow in the North Fairfield Cemetery. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville is handling the arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made for missions to either the Faith Community Chapel, 145 S. Union St., PO Box 184, Leesville, Ohio 44639 or the North Fairfield United Methodist Church, 105 W. Main St. North Fairfield, OH 44855.
