Agnes D. Carrothers, age 81, of 120 N. Union Street, Leesville, O., died suddenly in her home Thursday, December 9, 2010.
She was born January 28, 1929 in Bellaire, O. and was the daughter of the late Bruzelia G. and Genevieve Marie Black Jaquay. She married her husband Henry Chester Carrothers on Jan. 15, 1947 and he died October 8, 1980. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters Betty and Helen Jaquay and an unnamed infant.
Agnes had worked as a janitor for the former Leesville Grade School and as a part-time clerk for the Leesville Post Office. She was an active and faithful member of the Leesville United Methodist Church and many of her daily routines revolved around the activities of the church. Also active in her community, she served many years as a member of the Leesville Village Council. She took great pleasure and pride in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sporting events at Conotton Valley. Agnes was the last of a group of Leesville area women who lovingly became known as the "Leesville Mafia".
She is survived by a son Terrence E. (Debbie) Carrothers of Bowerston, O. and a daughter Carol Marthaler of Neffs, O., four grandchildren Quentin E. (Amanda) Carrothers of Bowerston, Mrs. Robert (Annette R.) Siminski of Clarkston, Michigan, and Mrs. Jeff (Tracy) Finney and Chad (Stacie) Smalley both of Neffs, O., 11 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Tyler, Allison, Keaton, Madisen, Joshua, Cody, Peyton, Daniel, Zackry, and Shane, and one great-great-grandchild Journey, three sisters Mary Willis of Bridgeport, O., Elenor Orum of Radcliff, Kentucky, and Jean Orum of Wheeling, West Virginia. Many nieces and nephews complete the family.
In accordance with Agnes' wishes, no calling hours will be held but a private family visitation will be observed. A public graveside service will be conducted 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in the Leesville Cemetery with Rev. Jerralyn Myers officiating. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville, O. is handling the arrangements.
