Verna May Ball

Verna May Ball, age 83, of Sherrodsville, Ohio, passed away early Saturday morning, December 9, 2017 in the Sunnyslope Care Center at Bowerston in the caring hands of Crossroads Hospice and the nursing home staff.

She was born February 1, 1934 in Dover, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Maude Border Stucky.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. "A. J." Ball,  who died November 1, 2002,  a sister Doris Miller, her in-laws Bert and Margaret Ball,  a step-son, James Ball,  and a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Ball.

Verna was a life-long member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover, O. and a 1952 graduate of Dover High School.  She lived in Sherrodsville most of her married life and was a strong supporter of Conotton Valley Athletics.  She looked forward to selling tickets to many Conotton Valley athletic events, a duty she embraced for many years.  She was a common sight at most local high school and little league baseball games.  Verna also volunteered for many years for most local fund-raising events for the Sherrodsville E.M.S. and fire departments. 

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Linda and Jim Stoyanovich of Uhrichsville, O., a  step-son Donald Ball of Dover,  a daughter-in-law Barb Ball of New Philadelphia, O., a  brother-in-law Paul Miller of Stevensville, Michigan,  six step-grandchildren, numerous step-great-grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted  6:00 Wednesday,  December 13, 2017 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Pastor Dottie Hartzell officiating.  Interment will follow at a later date  in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00 until time of services at 6:00 P.M. in the funeral home.  Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Crossroads Hospice 3743 Boettler Oakes Drive, Suite E Green, Ohio 44685 or to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
