Linda Lou (Swiney) Carr

Linda Lou (Swiney) Carr (1938-2018), age 79, of Bowerston, peacefully passed away Thursday morning, March 1, 2018, in her home.  Linda was born August 30, 1938 in Pikeville, Kentucky, and was the fourth of fourteen children born to Finas and Zelma (Elkins) Swiney.  

Being part of such a large family brought many joys and challenges, but Linda enjoyed particularly the closeness with her sisters that remained until her passing.  She married young and while the relationship did not last, it gave her the greatest gifts of her life, her four children.  Raising her children primarily as a single parent was the most difficult yet rewarding task for Linda.  She persevered through the tough periods and continued to forge on tirelessly, demonstrating a deep well of strength. She was a fierce protector of her children and would take on any person or thing she perceived as a threat to their safety and well-being.  She enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, and watching old westerns on television.  She also enjoyed artistic pursuits and redecorating and almost always had a home improvement project of some type in the works.  

In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by three brothers, Onsby Swiney, Rex Swiney, and Earnest “Jim” Swiney and three sisters, Barbara Ann Dickerhoff, Terry Dunn and Sharon Stitt.  She is survived by her four children, Randy Damron, John Damron, Don Michael (Mike) Damron, and Dawn Damron, three grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, four sisters, Ruth Wallace, Rudale Poole, Betty (Bill) Webster, Jeanie Swiney, and three brothers, Roger (Linda) Swiney, Kenneth Swiney, and Jerry Swiney.  

Additionally, the family would like to thank our dear family friend, Scott Benge, for helping to care for Linda throughout her illness.  His patience and deep compassion are so appreciated.
