John Dunn Obituary

John C. Dunn, age 78, of  Somerdale, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, November 27, 2018 in  the Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.

He was born June 14, 1940 in Salyersville (Cherry Orchard) Kentucky and was the son of  the late Haskel and Emily Jane Allen Dunn.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by  two sisters Dafnes Dunn Walker and Virginia Rose Dunn and two brothers David Haskel Dunn and  Allen Dunn.

John retired in 1995 from the Timken Company at Canton where he was employed for 37 years.  He also retired in 2017 after 20 years of service as a Fairfield Township Trustee.  He was a member of the Tabor Ridge Community Church.  His interests were varied, but many included the involvement of his four sons and their families. He was the consummate  "Family Man"; he loved spending time with and working alongside his family. He was known to spend many hours just "tinkering" around the household.  John enjoyed gospel and bluegrass music, looked forward to his frequent walks with his faithful dog "Brownie", and appreciated his time in the field coon hunting.  John raised beef cattle, sheep, and various livestock, including his involvement rearing pigs for his grandchildren's 4-H projects. He could often be seen in the township driving his favorite red pickup truck. The path he cut through life was one of honesty,  humility, hard work,  and a strong willingness to serve his community.  He will be missed by his family, his community, and his friends.

He is survived by  his wife Louella M. "Lou" Wigfield Dunn, whom he married June 26, 1960, his four sons, Mark (Doris) Dunn of New Philadelphia,  Matt (Ava) Dunn of Mineral City, OH, Mitch (Twila) Dunn of Somerdale, Pastor John T. (Amber) Dunn of Dover, OH, a  brother, James Dunn of New Cumberland, OH, a sister  Mrs. Barbara (Don) Laubacher of Carrollton, OH, his seven grandchildren  Peter (Erin) Price of Bolivar, OH,  Jeremy (Brittani) Dunn of Marion, OH,  Mrs. Leah (Randall) Patrick of New Philadelphia,  Patrick Dunn and his girlfriend Kylee Crislip of Canton, OH, Ali Dunn of Mineral City,  and Noah and Joshua Dunn, both of Dover, and his seven great-grandchildren Paige and Caleb Price, Kimberly, Gabriella and Adalyn Patrick, and Sophia and Anchor Dunn.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday,  December 1, 2018 in the Warren Township Community Center with his sons Pastor John Dunn and Mark Dunn officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
