Charlie Ericksen, age 93, of  Sherrodsville, Ohio died Sunday morning, April 23, 2017 in the Carroll Golden Age Retreat at Carrollton following a period of declining health.

He was born July 5, 1923 in Canton, Ohio and was the son of the late Lewis Christian and Martha Petersen Ericksen.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Frances Krug Ericksen, who died December 31, 2014,  two sons Daniel Ericksen and Hans C. Ericksen,  a granddaughter, Rhonda Ericksen, and five brothers and a sister.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the U.S.S. Saratoga in the South Pacific.  Charlie retired at age 57 and spent a long and happy retirement from the Teamster's Union local #92 at Canton. He was a bird enthusiast who kept and cared for numerous varieties of birds for many years.  He was a pet lover who also kept Great Danes around his home.  He was a loving and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will always be remembered by his family and friends. 

He is survived by his three children Charles G. "Smoke"  (Kathy) Ericksen of Bamberg, South Carolina, Mrs. Jim (Karen) Greenleaf and Lewis C. "Lew"  (Susan) Ericksen, both of Sherrodsville,  a daughter-in-law Paula Ericksen of Magnolia, O., his seven grandchildren Jim (Marie) Greenleaf, Laura Palmer,  Daniel (Heather) Ericksen,  Andrew Ericksen, Tiffany Moore, Christopher Ericksen and Stephen Ericksen, and eight great-grandchildren.


Calling hours for Charlie will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.  in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville.  A public graveside service officiated by Rev. Milo Baker will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday April 27, 2017 in the North Lawn Cemetery in Canton, Ohio. Those attending the graveside service are requested to meet at the cemetery.   The family suggests contributions in Charlie's memory may be made to the Carroll County Animal Protection League, P.O.
