Welcome to the memorial page for

Sharon Kay (Swiney) Stitt

June 20, 1956 ~ July 3, 2017 (age 61) 61 Years Old

Sharon Kay (Swiney) Stitt, 61, of Bowerston, passed away Monday afternoon, July 3, 2017 in the Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.
A daughter of the late Finas and Zelma Elkins Swiney, Sharon was born June 20, 1956 in Dover, Ohio.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers Rex Swiney,  Onsby Swiney and Earnest Junior "Jim" Swiney, and two sisters Terry G. Dunn and Barbara Ann Dickerhoff.

Sharon was known best as a great horsewoman and a talented artist. A member of the Tri-County Trail Association for many years, Sharon loved her gaited horses and trail riding. Having learned to ride as a toddler, she was expert in the saddle and amazed her friends by leaping onto her horses from the ground like an Indian. She was very active and supportive to her daughter Jamie’s interest in horses throughout Jamie’s years in 4-H, and she helped Jamie develop into a successful Standardbred racehorse trainer. Sharon was also a talented and imaginative artist who excelled at drawing and painting, and some of her artwork is still used in advertising today. Most of all, Sharon was a strong person and a survivor who faced life straight on and always made sure her horses and her dogs were comfortable and well-cared for even in difficult times. Sharon was recently baptized and felt the comfort of her faith through her final journey.
She is survived by a daughter Jamie Coffy of New Philadelphia, five sisters Ruth E. Wallace of New Philadelphia, O., Mrs. Rudale Pool of Hudson, Florida, Linda Carr of Bowerston, O., Mrs. Betty S. (Bill) Webster of Clarkston, Michigan, Jeanie Swiney of Sherrodsville, O.,  and three brothers, Roger L. (Linda) Swiney of Sherrodsville, Kenneth B. Swiney of St. Petersburg, Florida,  and Jerry  Swiney of Conotton, O.
The family would like to thank Operation Warm and Cozy for helping to place Sharon’s beloved dogs, who were like family to her, in good homes so she did not have to worry about them, her friend Scott Benge for caring for her throughout her illness, and Hospice of Tuscarawas County for all their efforts to make her last journey a gentle one.

A Memorial Service for Sharon will be held at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in the Baxter Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Pastor Lisa Elliott officiating.
