Loy Lee Kempthorne

Loy Lee Kempthorne, age 82, of Deming, New Mexico, and a former resident of Sherrodsville and Zanesville, Ohio,  died Monday afternoon, July 11, 2016 in the St. John Medical Center at Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was born January 20, 1934 in Sherrodsville, Ohio and was the son of the late Dells W. "Chick" and Mary Beamer Kempthorne.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Stan Kempthorne,  Barry Wilson, and Christopher Wilson.

Loy retired June 1, 1999 as an Electronics Instructor at the former Muskingum Perry Career Center at Zanesville after 20 years of service. He also owned and operated the former Kempthorne TV Service in New Philadelphia, Ohio between 1961 and 1971, was employed as a service manager and technician at Dunn's TV, and was an electronic service technician at Ladrach's TV.  He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Deming, New Mexico where he served as Church Council President and Treasurer, and was a Korean War Era veteran of the U.S. Army, who served from 1954 until 1956. He was a 1951 graduate of the former Sherrodsville High School, attended Ohio State University, and held a degree Electronic Engineering from the Cass Electronic Institute in Detroit, Michigan. He was a Life Member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #510 at New Philadelphia, the Rio Mimbres Country Club, and a member of the Bataan American Legion Post #4 in Deming. He was a former treasurer of the Luna County Democrats at Deming, and served as chairman of the Deming Airport Commission.  He also served as President of the Mid-East Ohio Education Association, was a voting delegate at the AVA National Conference, a member of the AVA, and Board President of the MCS Credit Union.  Loy's interests were varied as he possessed a pilot's license and owned airplanes, which he piloted for many years.  When he gave up flying, he acquired the hobby of purchasing race horses. He was fond of traveling and had an acute interest in the stock market. 

He is survived by his wife Vivian Jordan Kempthorne, whom he married February 10, 1974 in Zanesville, a daughter Mrs. Penny (Mike) Huff of Dover, O.,  a  son Stuart Wilson (wife Nancy Tolbert) of Glenpool, Oklahoma, four grandchildren Carissa Clum Gay of Jackson Township, Stark Co., O.,  Mrs. Ashley (Jeff) Huff of Killbuck, O., Dylan Kempthorne of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and  Jordan Huff of New Philadelphia, O., and six great-grandchildren, Ryan and Joshua Gay both of Jackson Township,  and Hailey, Zachary, Paige and Peyton Huff, all of Killbuck.

A public graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M.Saturday, July 16, 2016 in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens with Rev. Donald L. Rice, Jr. officiating, with interment to follow. There are no public calling hours scheduled.  The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville is handling arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veteran's National Foundation (dunf.org), P.O.
