PHILANTHROPIST DIES
Jay C. Leggett, age 90, of Bowerston, Ohio died Thursday morning, June 25, 2015 in the Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.

He retired in 1983 after 40 years of service as a railroad engineer on the Wheeling and Lake Erie, Nickel Plate, and Norfolk and Southern Railways.

He was born August 26, 1924 just east of Leesville, Ohio and was the son of the late Paul and Martha Leech Leggett.  Jay proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was Presbyterian by faith, a 1942 graduate of the former Dellroy High School, and had attended Kent State University. He was a member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #177 for more than 65 years. Jay and his wife Nadine began their personal charitable efforts in 1986. Through their philanthropic deeds, they have acted to generously support a number of local hospitals, churches, fire and E.M.S. departments, schools, libraries and other historic efforts and worthy causes in addition to establishing a number of scholarships. Jay is survived by his wife Nadine Leggett, whom he married September 10, 1955 and his beloved Labrador Retriever Abby Star. They lived together in Dover, Ohio for 35 years after they married until they settled in their home just outside Leesville. Throughout the course of their married life, Jay and Nadine Leggett were virtually inseparable.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 28, 2015 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Mark Unrue officiating. Interment will follow in the Longview Cemetery at Bowerston. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 12:30 P.M. until time of services at 2:00 in the funeral home.
