GEORGE W. "Bill" BUCKEY

George W. "Bill" Buckey, age 71, of Newark, Ohio died Saturday morning, June 13, 2015 in Licking Memorial Hospital at Newark following a brief illness.

He was born July 29, 1943 in Canton, Ohio and was the son of the late Daniel B. and Iva Pauline Clark Buckey. His wife, Virgine "Kay" Martin Buckey, whom he married June 28, 1986, passed away on August 24, 2013. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law Michael Ray and Laurie Leatherman Buckey, three brothers Jack, Duane Floyd, and Robert L. Buckey.

He retired in 1999 as an employee of the Republic Steel Corporation in Canton, Ohio after 30 years of service. Bill was a 1961 graduate of Conotton Valley High School and served in the U.S. Navy. After retirement, he spent some time working at his son Dave's used car lot in Newark. He liked to fill his time watching sports on television, particularly the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes, and was a FOX News enthusiast. He commonly traveled to watch his son Dan race stock cars at Midvale Speedway. He could frequently be found wandering the aisles of the Newark area Wal-Mart and Dollar General Stores just to fill a little time. He treasured the company of his children and was always quick to share a joke with his family and friends. He was proud that his only daughter Tammy rode a Harley to "keep up with the boys". He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by three sons and a daughter William R. (Linda) Buckey of Granville, Ohio, Dan (Carol) Buckey of Sherrodsville, Ohio, Dave Buckey of Newark and his girlfriend Tara Schmidt, and Mrs. Tammy (Sye) Jackson of Mineral City, Ohio, his four step-children Brenda Nelson of Athens, Ohio, Troy (Susan) Parsons of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Mrs. Christina (Don) Sears of Dennison, Ohio, and Clint (Nicole) Parsons of Newark, 11 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and four sisters and a brother Mrs. Roberta (Bud) Lane of Bowling Green, Ohio, Mrs. Brenda (George) Imes of Massillon, Ohio, Mrs. Connie (Dave) Bowling of Tampa, Florida, Mrs. Cheryl (Ken) Moffat of Sherrodsville, and Daniel Buckey of Wayne, New Jersey.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 P.M. Friday, June 19, 2015 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Dan Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
